Warning

In Victoria if an automotive LPG conversion is not carried out by a business registered with the Automotive Alternative Fuels Registration Board (AAFRB) or fails to meet the criteria below, it will not be an acceptable modification to VicRoads or most insurance companies. Also, it will be unacceptable to the relevant authorities in other States.

Requirements for an approved LPG modification include:

1. All LPG installations must comply with the technical requirements of the version of Australian Standards AS1425:2007 current at the time of conversion.

2. Conversions effected on or after January 1993 require an approved AS1425:2007 compliance plate affixed to the vehicle.

3. All vehicles plated January 2004 and onwards MUST be fitted with an emissions certified LPG system. The vehicle owner must be given a copy of the emission certification certificate which the vehicle owner should retain in a safe place as they may be required to produce it if requested by an EPA inspector.

4. The structural integrity of the vehicle must not be adversely affected.

5. The change in fuel type must be recorded with the appropriate State vehicle registration authority.
